MENA Newswire, ABU DHABI: UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met with Montenegro Prime Minister Milojko Spajić on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, as the United Arab Emirates continued a series of high-level diplomatic engagements with visiting heads of government attending the global sustainability forum. The meeting took place in Abu Dhabi and formed part of the President’s schedule of bilateral discussions with international leaders participating in the event.

According to official statements released by the UAE, the talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and expanding cooperation across areas of mutual interest. The discussions addressed political coordination as well as economic and development-related cooperation, with particular attention given to trade, investment and sustainable development sectors. Both leaders reviewed existing ties and explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in line with national development priorities.

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week serves as an international platform bringing together government leaders, policymakers, industry executives and international organizations to discuss global sustainability challenges. The annual event focuses on renewable energy, climate action, innovation, and sustainable economic growth. The meeting between the UAE President and the Montenegrin Prime Minister took place amid a broader program of official dialogues and partnerships announced during the week.

The UAE and Montenegro also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on investment during the meeting. The agreement aims to support cooperation between the two countries in investment-related fields and to facilitate the exchange of expertise and information. Officials indicated that the memorandum is intended to provide a framework for identifying potential areas of collaboration and encouraging mutually beneficial economic activity.

Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the UAE’s approach of building partnerships with countries across Europe and other regions based on shared interests and constructive engagement. The UAE leadership has emphasized economic diversification, sustainable development and international cooperation as central pillars of its foreign policy, particularly through investment partnerships and participation in multilateral platforms such as Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

Prime Minister Spajić welcomed the opportunity to meet with the UAE President and highlighted the importance of dialogue with the Gulf state. Montenegro has sought to strengthen its international economic relations and attract foreign investment as part of its development agenda. The meeting underscored Montenegro’s interest in engaging with regional and global partners through platforms focused on sustainability and economic cooperation.

Senior UAE officials attended the meeting alongside the President, including members of the ruling family and ministers responsible for foreign affairs and economic portfolios. The presence of senior officials reflected the UAE’s emphasis on high-level engagement during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which regularly hosts heads of state, ministers and executives from across the world.

The meeting with the Montenegrin Prime Minister was one of several bilateral engagements held by Sheikh Mohamed during the event. The UAE President has used the forum to meet leaders from multiple regions, discussing cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, infrastructure, technology and investment. These meetings are part of the UAE’s broader efforts to position itself as a hub for dialogue on sustainability and economic development.

    Sustainability forum facilitates diplomatic engagement

Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week continues through a series of conferences, exhibitions and forums addressing energy transition, climate resilience and sustainable finance. The event is organized by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company and supported by the UAE government. It has become a key fixture on the international calendar for sustainability-related dialogue, drawing participation from governments, international institutions and the private sector.

Officials from both the UAE and Montenegro indicated that the meeting reflected the two countries’ shared interest in maintaining open channels of communication and cooperation. The discussions and the investment memorandum were presented as steps within an ongoing process of diplomatic and economic engagement, conducted within the framework of the broader sustainability-focused gathering in Abu Dhabi.
